Our Church

Into lives subject to voices that would draw us in many directions, God speaks His Word as the Holy Scriptures, which reveal Christ, are read to us; and faithfully proclaimed among us. We believe that the Bible is the Holy Bible, given to us as a precious gift from God . In that Word we find His will, His truth, and His love for us. Our gathering together on the Lord’s Day sets the stage for our God to speak to us from that Word.

HERE OUR GOD MAKES US HIS OWN THROUGH HOLY BAPTISM

Our Lord Jesus Christ has established His Church on earth. To His Church He gave the promise, “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst” (Matt. 18:20). It is evident as He adds to His Church and our number, those who have sincerely repented and are baptized. We highly treasure Baptism as our God’s gracious saving work among us whereby He serves us by clothing us in Christ Jesus. His Word says, “As many of you as have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ.” (Gal. 3:27). “Baptism does also now save us.” (I Peter 3:21)

HERE OUR GOD NOURISHES THE FAITH OF HIS PEOPLE THROUGH THE SACRAMENT OF THE ALTAR

As often as possible upon the Lord’s day, our congregation, moved by Christ’s own Word, “Do this in remembrance of me,” celebrates the Lord’s Supper. In this supper we hear His gracious invitation to ‘come unto Me.” In this supper we believe that He is uniquely present with His Church. There He who is the Bread of Life and the Water of Life feeds and strengthens His people. There He offers to us what all so desperately need, divine grace to live ‘life’ pleasing in HIS sight.

HE GIVES HIS WORD AND LEADS US TO A CONFESSION OF FAITH:

We believe that the Lord of the Church, Jesus Christ, made
the primary task of the Church the proclamation of the Gospel. Hence we view our essential task to be one of proclamation: We believe and teach;

That God is Triune, one God in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. (Matt. 28:19; II Cor. 13:14; I John 5:7)

That the Bible is God’s revelation of Himself. Since it is the Word of God, it is perfectly reliable and contains no error. (II Tim. 3:16; II Peter 1:21)

That Jesus Christ alone is Savior, Who in His life, death and resurrection has reconciled man to God and forgiven the sin of the whole world, which forgiveness is ours through faith alone. (St. John 3:16; I Tim. 1:16; I John 2:1 & 2); (II Cor. 5:19; Hebrews 2:17; )

That God continues to impart this forgiveness through the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. Baptism (Mat. 3:14;St. John 3:5; I Peter 3:21)Sacrament of the Altar (St. John 6:53; I Cor. 11:22-27)

History of The Anglican Orthodox Church ( AOC )

The Anglican Orthodox Church was organized on November 16, 1963 by the Most Reverend James Parker Dees, B.D., D.D. to preserve the basic tenets of Anglicanism, namely:

The Biblical Faith,
The 1928 Book of Common Prayer,
The Thirty-nine Articles of Religion,
The Homilies,
The Doctrines of the Anglican Reformers, and
The Biblical Morality.

Moreover, the Anglican Orthodox Church helps build a Christian America by exposing evil and preaching the Gospel.

The Anglican Orthodox Church was established by The Most Reverend James Parker Dees, who was a priest, and others who saw that the Episcopal Church was rapidly repudiating its foundations. They wanted to preserve their traditions of Anglicanism as held by the Episcopal Church until recent years.

The Anglican Orthodox Church focuses worship on God as He has commanded. The Bible makes it plain that individuals cannot come before God in their own right, because of the sinful nature of men who have disobeyed Him.

The Bible also makes plain that God has wrought in history a great program of salvation by which sinners are forgiven and again brought into communion with Him. That program is centered on the work of Jesus the Son of God, who was born of the virgin Mary in order that He might become our representative before God in living for us bearing in His death the punishment for our sin.

Jesus declared, "No man cometh unto the Father but by me."

Dees was born in Greenville, North Carolina on December 30, 1915, the son of James Earle Dees and Margaret Burgwin (Parker) Dees. He graduated in 1938 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. degree in political science and economics, then took a year of graduate study in international relations. From 1939 until 1942, he worked for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in Greenville, North Carolina. For two years after the Second World War, he was a baritone soloist with the New York Opera Company. He then studied at the Protestant Episcopal Church’s Virginia Theological Seminary for his bachelor of divinity degree, graduating in 1949. He was ordained as a deacon in the Protestant Episcopal Church on June 29, 1949, and as a priest on

January 19, 1950. As a member of the Diocese of North Carolina, he served in charges in Aurora, Beaufort, and Statesville. A staunch conservative both religiously and politically (in June 1965 he received an honorary doctorate of divinity from fundamentalist Bob Jones University), Dees had grown increasingly disturbed during the 1950s and 1960s by the Episcopal Church’s liberal social teaching (including support for liberation theology) and by its refusal to discipline those such as Bishop James Pike who repudiated basic doctrines such as the Atonement. He had even written to the House of Bishops to oppose Pike’s views, but Pike never received anything more than a mild censure. Dees finally resigned on November 15, 1963 and the following day founded the AOC. Combining a love of “Low Church,” Reformation Anglicanism with a deep regard for Apostolic Succession, the North Carolina clergyman sought consecration at the hands of Bishop Wasyl Sawyna, primate of the Holy Ukrainian Autocephalic Orthodox Church. Bishop Orlando J. Woodward of the Old Catholic succession was another consecrator. The consecration took place on March 15, 1964, in the Cathedral of St. Basil the Great, Emmaus, Pennsylvania. The hallmark of the Anglican Orthodox Church, which sets it apart from most of the churches which came out of the St. Louis conference, is its insistence on the principles of the English Reformation. Bishop Dees expounded his views on these principles in his 1971 address “Reformation Anglicanism,” delivered at the dedication of the AOC’s Cranmer Seminary, Statesville, North Carolina.

On 22 October 2000 in St. Peter's Anglican Orthodox Church in Statesville, NC, the Rev'd Jerry L. Ogles (born 1943) was consecrated Bishop for the USA and the Rev'd Ernest Jacob was consecrated Bishop for Pakistan by the Rt. Rev'd Thomas Karikkuzhy the Bishop of India and by the Rt. Rev'd Dr. Isaac P.B. Mokoena the Bishop of South Africa. Bishop Ogles was originally ordained a presbyter in the AOC in 1981 and is the rector of St. Andrew's Anglican Orthodox Parish, Enterprise, AL, USA (parish formed on 17 November 2000). In February of 2003 he travelled to Kenya where he consecrated the Rev'd Eric Ojuki Achola as the new AOC bishop for the Kenyan branch of the Church. During the 2003 Convention of the AOC held in Statesville from 17 to 19 October of that year, Bishop Ogles was installed as Presiding Bishop and Metropolitan of the International Anglican Orthodox Church.
